BMW, the renowned German automaker, is revving up to introduce its latest electric marvel, the iX1 electric SUV, to the Indian market. This exciting addition marks BMW’s fourth foray into the world of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, and the anticipation is building as the launch date of September 28 draws near.
The iX1 electric SUV takes inspiration from the third generation of BMW’s entry-level X1 SUV. It’s positioned just below its sibling, the iX, which is currently the only other electric SUV offered by BMW in India. Priced at an estimated ₹70 lakh or below, the iX1 is set to enter the luxury EV segment, ready to compete with formidable rivals like the Volvo C40 Recharge and the Kia EV6.
Under the hood, the iX1 electric SUV is expected to debut in India with the xDrive30 variant. This electrifying SUV boasts a dual electric motor setup, harnessing the power to generate an impressive 313 bhp of maximum power and 494 Nm of peak torque. The magic happens as all four wheels of the iX1 come to life, propelling it from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 180 kmph.
The heartbeat of this EV is a robust 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a generous electric range of up to 438 kilometers on a single charge. Charging won’t be a hassle either, thanks to the inclusion of an 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger. But here’s the real game-changer: the iX1 supports fast charging with a capacity of up to 130 kW, allowing the SUV to juice up from 10 percent to an impressive 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
When it comes to design, the BMW iX1 electric SUV maintains much of the elegance of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. The most notable change is upfront, with a closed grille featuring a stylish honeycomb mesh design. Inside the iX1, you’ll find a plush interior that’s nothing short of impressive. The centerpiece is a commanding 10.7-inch curved screen with touch functionality, complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The convenience factor is further elevated with features like wireless charging, responsive voice control, and much more.
As BMW gears up to launch the iX1 electric SUV, the Indian EV landscape is in for a thrilling transformation. With its potent performance, impressive range, and luxurious features, the iX1 is poised to make a significant impact in the world of electric mobility.
